IMPORTANT JAMB UPDATE 2026: What Every Student and Parent Must Know

Dear Parents and Students,

As we continue to support our students’ academic journey beyond secondary school, we want to bring to your attention a critical update from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding the 2026 registration process.

The New JAMB Policy: One Admission at a Time

JAMB has issued a clear directive that has significant implications for students who accepted tertiary institution admissions in 2025: You cannot run two admissions simultaneously.

What This Means

If your child or ward accepted admission in 2025 into any:

  • University
  • Polytechnic
  • College of Education
  • Monotechnic

…they are NOT eligible to register for JAMB 2026, regardless of their reasons.

Common Misconceptions Clarified

Many students assume they can register for JAMB again if:

  • They don’t like their current course
  • They want to change institutions
  • They simply want to “try again” for a better option

This is incorrect. Once an admission is accepted through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), JAMB officially recognizes the student as enrolled, and dual registration is prohibited.

Your Options Moving Forward

Students who accepted admission in 2025 have two clear options:

Option 1: Continue Your Current Admission

Proceed with the course and institution you accepted. Focus on excelling in your current program rather than seeking alternatives.

Option 2: Formally Withdraw and Reapply

If you are genuinely certain about changing your academic path:

  1. Write a formal withdrawal letter to your current institution
  2. Ensure your admission is completely cleared from the JAMB system
  3. Only after confirmation of withdrawal can you legally register for JAMB 2026

Important Exception

If you rejected your 2025 admission (you did NOT click “ACCEPT” on CAPS), you are free to register for JAMB 2026 without any restrictions.

Before You Register for JAMB 2026

We strongly advise all affected students to:

✓ Check your CAPS status carefully
✓ Confirm whether you accepted any admission in 2025
✓ Make an informed decision: continue or withdraw
✓ Consult with your parents, guardians, and school counselors

Why This Matters

One wrong assumption or oversight can result in:

  • Wasted registration fees
  • Loss of an entire academic year
  • Complications with your academic records
  • Potential disqualification from future admissions
